The Governor's Green Government Council has awarded this state-of-the art high performance building the distinction of being Pennsylvania's first "model" Green Technology facility. The entire project, including an integrated systems design process, represents a groundbreaking new paradigm in building design for environmental sustainability. Located on a "brownfield" site, the building's components maximize the use of sustainable materials, minimize negative impacts on interior air quality and raw material depletion, and cut annual utility bills by more then 50%, all for a construction cost at or below the market for conventional construction. It is intended to serve as a statewide educational tool and has set the specification standard for all future "green" building projects in the Commonwealth. An educational documentary film of its design and construction, which has aired on PBS, has been produced to help others realize the extraordinary benefits of designing high performance "green" buildings.
